Malaysia to Implement MyDigital ID for Prepaid SIM Card Registration by Year-End

Kuala lumpur: The registration of prepaid SIM cards in Malaysia is set to fully integrate with MyDigital ID by the end of this year, as announced by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. This initiative aims to enhance digital security measures across the nation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI Government spokesperson, stated that this transition will involve collaboration with all telecommunications companies in the country. They will be instructed to implement the registration process using digital identity verification through MyDigital ID. This decision was a result of discussions held during the meeting of the National Council of Digital Economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (MED4IR).

Fahmi emphasized that this change is expected to be enforced by the end of the current year. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is tasked with providing further detailed information on the initiative, particularly focusing on enhancing certain security aspects. This approach aims to address existing loopholes in the current system and prevent potential misuse by irresponsible parties.
