Jeddah: Malaysia has called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take a unified and more decisive stance against Israel, including imposing embargoes, boycotts, and sanctions, in response to what it described as ongoing atrocities and violations of international law against the Palestinian people. Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamed Hassan emphasized that these measures should be collectively implemented by the OIC member states if a consensus is reached.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the Malaysian Foreign Minister expressed these views during an emergency meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in Jeddah. He stressed the importance of exerting pressure on Israel through bans and sanctions to address the humanitarian and international law violations committed by the Israeli regime.

Hassan highlighted the necessity for the OIC and the Arab League to coordinate their actions ahead of the United Nations conference scheduled for next September. The goal is to mobilize the positions of Islamic countries in a more organized and effective manner, potentially including restrictions on arms shipments to Israel.

He further urged the OIC and the League of Arab States to exert systematic and coordinated pressure, aiming to impose restrictions on Israel to prevent the shipment of weapons that could be used against Palestinians. Additionally, he called for continued condemnation of Israel's practices and pressure to accept a ceasefire plan proposed by the United States.

Hassan noted that some European countries have already taken measures to prevent military equipment shipments from reaching Israel, aligning with Malaysia's longstanding position. He argued that a comprehensive embargo would be more effective with international support and resolutions from the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council.

In related discussions, Hassan reiterated Malaysia's opposition to Israel's efforts to expand its control in the West Bank through the E1 plan, which involves expanding illegal settlements. He called on the international community to halt the expulsion of Palestinians and the destruction of their homes, demanding Israel's withdrawal from seized territories.

Hassan concluded by characterizing the occupation as a violation of international law and a crime against humanity, urging the global community to address these issues with the seriousness they deserve.
