Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Malaysia is prepared to initiate a strong protest if the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), a humanitarian aid vessel bound for Gaza, is intercepted or seized by Israeli forces. Anwar highlighted Malaysia's commitment to diplomatic efforts with various countries, including global powers, to address the situation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated his intention to mobilize a comprehensive protest and reach out to countries that have previously presented peace proposals, specifically mentioning Italy, Spain, and Turkiye, with additional support from China. He also noted ongoing initiatives from France and Saudi Arabia as part of efforts to propose peace.
At a media conference following his visit to the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre, Anwar underscored the importance of maintaining strong relationships with Western and Arab countries, as well as major powers like the United States, to ensure that Palestinian voices are heard on a global scale. He expressed hope that international allies would not be swayed by local discourse and emphasized the significance of engaging with world leaders, particularly the US, to acknowledge the global community's demands.
Anwar expressed optimism about his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump during the 47th ASEAN Summit in October, hoping it would lead to an effective resolution to the Gaza conflict. While acknowledging that not all parties may be satisfied with the outcomes, Anwar reiterated Malaysia's fundamental demand for an immediate cessation of violent attacks on Gaza.
The GSF mission involves 34 Malaysians among activists from 45 countries, all committed to breaking the Gaza siege through this international humanitarian effort. Despite facing obstacles such as drone attacks, the activists remain determined. Malaysia was the first nation to officially recognize the mission, with Anwar offering full support.
Currently sailing in international waters near Greece, the GSF carries essential supplies, including food and medicine, and a message of peace, urging an end to conflict and famine while advocating for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
