Malaysian Army Boosts Border Presence To Safeguard Security

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Army (TDM) will continue to strengthen the deployment of personnel and assets along the nation's borders to ensure security remains intact. Army Chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman announced these plans, emphasizing the integration of modern technology such as drones, scrambler motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and optronic equipment to enhance surveillance capabilities and ensure the welfare and safety of front-line personnel.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, amid an increasingly complex global security landscape, TDM is undergoing a holistic transformation in line with the Defence White Paper to remain operationally ready at all times. General Azhan emphasized the need for a modular, lethal, and deployable force to be prepared for multi-domain warfare and regional geopolitical uncertainties. He shared these insights during a press conference following the 93rd Army Day Parade at Sungai Besi Perdana Camp.

Additionally, TDM is set to bolster its capabilities with eight helicopters under a 15-year leasing programme starting next year, aimed at strengthening the Army Air Wing (PUTD). The procurement of Self-Propelled Howitzers (SPH) is also progressing smoothly and is anticipated to enter service in stages from next year. General Azhan highlighted that these new assets are essential for maintaining the army's highest level of readiness to meet current defence needs.

Earlier, the 93rd Army Day Parade showcased a regimental format involving 36 officers and 847 other ranks, led by Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Safuan Jaafar. The parade featured eight regimental colours and eight detachments from various TDM corps and regiments. The event included a flypast by PUTD with four helicopters, including two Agusta A109 and two MD530G aircraft. A static display highlighted key TDM assets such as the ASTROS II, AV8 Gempita ATGW, PT-91M Pendekar tank, ADNAN ACV 300, Rapid Ranger vehicle, and the 105mm LG1 MK III howitzer.
