Malaysian Fans Held Back at Gelora Bung Karno for Safety After Match

Jakarta:Malaysian supporters were temporarily kept inside Gelora Bung Karno Stadium as a safety measure following the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup Group A Division 1 match between Malaysia and Indonesia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision was part of security protocols to avoid confrontations between rival fans and facilitate a controlled exit from the stadium.

Harimau Malaya fans were instructed to remain seated until security personnel confirmed the safety of exit routes and surrounding areas. Security was heightened both inside and outside the stadium, with officers monitoring fan movement, particularly at exits and main walkways.

Officials aimed to allow Malaysian fans to exit only after the majority of Indonesian supporters had left, minimizing the potential for disturbances. The match, which ended in a goalless draw, attracted a significant crowd of home fans, necessitating enhanced security and crowd management efforts.

Malaysia's national team is set to play against Singapore in their final group match at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung on Thursday.
