Kuala muda: Police have advised motorcyclists in convoys abroad, especially in neighbouring countries, to comply with local laws to avoid action by authorities. Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah emphasized the importance of meeting legal requirements for all participants and vehicles before any convoy begins.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Adzli highlighted the necessity of adhering to local laws while riding abroad, noting that traffic regulations abroad do not differ significantly from those in Malaysia. Riders are required to hold a valid driving licence, maintain active road tax, and ensure that vehicle modifications meet the specified standards. These remarks were made during the flag-off of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Charity Ride convoy, an event organized in collaboration with the Ipoh Superbikes Club (ISBC), in celebration of the 219th Police Day and the 69th Merdeka Eve.
Adzli's comments came in response to a recent viral social media video showing a Malaysian motorcycle convoy allegedly fined by Thai authorities for traffic offences. He reiterated the need for motorcycle convoy organisers to consult with authorities before planning such events. "When an application to hold a convoy is submitted, we call organisers for a discussion on safety and route planning to prevent incidents," he added.
