Malaysian Qariah Among Finalists In International Quran Recitation Tonight

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's qariah (female Quran reciter) Wan Sofea Aini Wan Mohd Zahidi is among six finalists scheduled to recite in the final round of the 2025 International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) tonight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) announced in a Facebook post that the event will be held at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, beginning at 8.45 pm. The post encouraged attendees to fill the hall and support Wan Sofea Aini.

The other finalists competing in the event include Mohamad Habil Walizada from Afghanistan, Kaiyrbay Dauken from Kazakhstan, Mohamad Mozammel Hossain from Canada, Nur Rahmiyatin Adhya from Indonesia, and Sansari Sos Yusof from Cambodia. The session will be broadcast live on RTM TV1 and JAKIM's official social media platforms from 8.15 pm.

The 65th edition of MTHQA, held under the theme 'Developing a MADANI Ummah', runs from August 2 to 9 and features 71 participants from 49 countries. Winners in the Tilawah category will receive RM40,000, with runner-up and third-place winners receiving RM30,000 and RM20,000 respectively, along with jewellery sponsored by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM).
