Malaysian Students in Saudi Arabia Under Close Monitoring Following Riyadh Attack

Riyadh:Following an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Malaysian authorities have determined there is currently no urgent need to evacuate Malaysian students from Saudi Arabia. However, the situation is being closely monitored.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir stated that monitoring efforts are focused on several areas, including Madinah and Makkah, to ensure the safety of the students. The ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which has lasted for the past seven months, is being evaluated in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry to obtain updated information.

The attack at King Khalid International Airport resulted in 12 fatalities and 309 injuries, as reported by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation. The deceased included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis, and individuals from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan.

In a different context, Zambry announced a RM200,000 allocation for 400 selected students from low-income families to reduce education costs. The assistance, provided through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), aims to support students at public universities, teacher education institutes (IPGs), matriculation colleges, polytechnics, and other institutions. Each student will receive RM500, distributed in stages, to ensure the aid is used effectively for their studies.

Zambry expressed hope that this financial support would help students continue their education smoothly and alleviate financial burdens, especially for families with multiple dependents.
