Kuala lumpur: The government has announced the commencement of B15 biodiesel production by 19 licensed plants starting June 1, in an initiative to reduce diesel prices across the nation. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who also oversees the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, revealed that production will commence with B15, and there are plans to advance to B20 and potentially B50 within the next two to three years.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this phased strategy is designed to ensure that crude palm oil prices do not impact the cost of biodiesel production. Ahmad Zahid emphasized that palm oil-based biodiesel could become a significant driver for the rural economy while also supporting the national energy agenda.
He pointed out that this development offers an opportunity to integrate the strengths of Malaysia's commodities sector with the future of the rural economy. Ahmad Zahid urged organizations such as FELCRA, KETENGAH, and KESEDAR to recognize and harness this potential seriously.
