Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the importance of respecting the royal institution and maintaining administrative stability in Negeri Sembilan. He addressed concerns following a statement by a UMNO leader in the state, suggesting the party's readiness to become the opposition.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who also chairs Pakatan Harapan (PH), commented on the unclear nature of the UMNO (Negeri Sembilan) statement, refraining from further remarks. Emphasizing respect for the royal decree, he confirmed that the current Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, should continue his duties to uphold stability.
Anwar responded to Negeri Sembilan UMNO liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias's remarks about the party's willingness to become the opposition, rather than collaborating with PH. This stance is linked to a desire to avoid association with the state's customary and constitutional crisis.
He further noted that any claims regarding a loss of majority support for Aminuddin's government need to undergo proper legal examination. Anwar reiterated the government's dedication to the monarchy and the role of the four Undangs, traditional chieftains, in the governance of Negeri Sembilan.
Additionally, Anwar advised the Menteri Besar to engage with the four Undangs, in line with the state's laws and customs. The political tension in Negeri Sembilan stemmed from a reported declaration by the Undang Luak Sungei Ujong, which aimed to depose Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang Dipertuan Besar.
