Nagoya:Malaysia's men's squash team secured the country's ninth gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games with a 2-0 victory over Pakistan in the final at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this triumph marks Malaysia's return to the top of the men's team event, having last claimed the gold in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang edition. The team had only managed to secure a bronze medal at the 2022 Games in Hangzhou.
The men's team's success was part of a double gold achievement for Malaysia's squash contingent, as the women's team also defended their title with a 2-1 win over Hong Kong. This brings the total gold medal count for Malaysian squash to four at this edition of the Games.
In the men's final, C. Ameeshenraj overcame a first-set loss to defeat Nasir Iqbal 8-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-4, securing the first point for Malaysia. Ng Eain Yow delivered the decisive second point with a comeback victory against Noor Zaman, winning 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-5.
Prior to the team event, Ng Eain Yow and S. Sivasangari had already contributed to Malaysia's gold tally by winning their respective individual events last Sunday.
Ng Eain Yow expressed the significance of the win, noting the intense effort required to overcome his opponent. He described the victory as a fulfillment of "unfinished business," referencing his previous performance in 2018 and the disappointment of the last edition where he did not meet expectations.
Reflecting on the achievement, Eain Yow said, "Overall, I'm happy, I'm really, really happy. I'm also a bit speechless at the moment because I had to really fight hard and dig very deep." He emphasized the importance of delivering the fourth gold for squash and the ninth overall for Malaysia at the Games.
