Malaysia’s Stand In Global Governance Indices Will Be Elevated With Unified Commitment – KSN

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's standing in global governance indices will be elevated with unwavering dedication and a unified commitment to strong governance. Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar emphasized that the realization of the country's governance aspirations requires the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, including government entities, the private sector, regulatory bodies, and civil society.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Azri highlighted that Malaysia's commitment to good governance and anti-corruption extends beyond national borders. Ministries and agencies working with international counterparts play a crucial role in promoting and reinforcing these values on the global stage. By strengthening international collaborations, Malaysia aims to share best practices, learn from others, and take a unified stance against corruption, ensuring alignment with global standards and expectations.

Effective governance and the fight against corruption require strong, coordinated cross-border enforcement, Shamsul Azri noted. Through strategic international collaboration, the government seeks to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and build a global coalition to address transnational challenges. Engaging more closely with stakeholders and civil society partners is also deemed crucial to ensure greater inclusivity in policy-making, creating policies reflective of the people's needs and aspirations.

Reflecting on the recent findings of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) Malaysia 2024, Shamsul Azri acknowledged the formidable challenges the country faces in advancing integrity and transparency across both public and private sectors. However, he emphasized that these challenges should serve as catalysts for substantive and transformative change.

To place Malaysia in the top 25 in the global CPI ranking, the Special Task Force on CPI, chaired by Shamsul Azri, focuses on exploring strategic solutions and offering recommendations on institutional, policy, and legal reforms. The task force aims to enhance Malaysia's CPI performance within 10 years, formulating and implementing high-impact strategies.

Shamsul Azri outlined three Strategic Dimensions in Malaysia's CPI Roadmap: collective accountability, strong and effective institutions, and strategic collaboration. The Good Governance Conference (GGC) 2025 offered valuable insights, fresh perspectives, and innovative approaches to fortifying governance frameworks within Malaysia. Jointly organized by MACC and the Malaysian Institute of Integrity, the conference served as a crucial platform for in-depth discourse through engaging panel sessions featuring distinguished experts. The theme was 'Advancing Country's Image Through Governance Reforms: Policy-Performance-People'.
