Malaysia’s Strong Fundamentals Support Capital Market Opportunities

Malaysia: Malaysia's strong economic fundamentals will continue to support investment opportunities across its capital markets, Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican said. He noted that the country's economic model also emphasized strong governance, which provides Malaysians with greater opportunities to invest.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, investor education and improved financial literacy are critical to ensuring Malaysians can make informed investment decisions based on their personal circumstances, investment objectives, and risk appetite. Johan emphasized the importance of avoiding financial scams, which have become a significant social issue in Malaysia. Without adequate financial literacy and investor education, individuals may struggle to differentiate between credible investment propositions and those that are unrealistic or illusive.

Johan highlighted the alarming scale of investment scams in Malaysia, with Malaysians losing approximately RM1.47 billion to such scams in 2025. He expressed hope that the InvestSmart X Bursa Marketplace Fair 2026 would assist Malaysians in making more informed investment decisions and protecting themselves against scams.

Investment opportunities in the Malaysian market remain attractive, with the capital market offering various options through fund managers and brokers to cater to different investment objectives and risk profiles. The InvestSmart initiative, a collaboration between the Securities Commission Malaysia and Bursa Malaysia, was held on September 5-6. The inaugural collaboration combines investor education, market insights, and practical guidance, aiming to better equip participants with the knowledge to evaluate investment opportunities, understand risks, and identify potential scams.
