Kuala Lumpur: The initiative by the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to drive a comprehensive digital transformation is expected to simplify taxpayers' affairs nationwide, thereby increasing compliance levels.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Chief Officer of Operations at the IRB, Marsidi Zelika, stated that the digital transformation is not solely focused on migrating services to online platforms. It also involves a change in work structure, mindset, and operational strategy to ensure more efficient and user-friendly tax services. Systems such as MyTax, ByrHASiL, e-Filing, and e-Invoicing have been developed to enable taxpayers to manage their tax affairs quickly, easily, and securely without needing to visit a counter.
Marsidi highlighted that the digital system, including e-Filing equipped with automatic calculation and final review functions, helps users avoid common mistakes such as incorrect tax calculations and incomplete data. The integration of data, automatic verification, and the use of a single identity-based system through MyTax ensure that taxpayers' information is consistent and easy to track. This system is also linked to the Monthly Tax Deduction (PCB) information from employers.
Marsidi discussed the latest initiative-the implementation of e-Invoice, which began in phases in August last year. This initiative has received an encouraging response from the public, particularly small and medium-sized businesses. As of June 4, 2025, more than 313.4 million e-Invoices have been recorded, involving 33,391 taxpayers, indicating a positive reception for this digital initiative.
Marsidi explained that the implementation of e-Invoice not only replaces printed invoices but also opens opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to restructure their business accounting systems more systematically and effectively. The MyInvois portal and application, offered for free, allow users to access, send, and store transaction documents digitally, reducing the risk of document loss and speeding up administrative matters.
To ensure compliance with the new system, the IRB has established a one-stop reference center through the e-Invoice microsite. They also provide guidelines, video tutorials, and a 24/7 e-Invoice help desk, alongside e-Invoice counters at all IRB locations. Marsidi urged taxpayers, especially MSMEs, to begin preparing immediately and to utilize all available guidance and support from the IRB.
Marsidi emphasized that the digitalisation efforts by IRB align with the National Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) and the government's aspiration to empower the public sector holistically through technology. He expressed the hope of developing a tax service ecosystem based on convenience, trust, and security, providing borderless services accessible from any location at any time.
In his closing remarks, Marsidi called on all taxpayers to take full advantage of the digital facilities provided and to support the digitalisation of public services. He encouraged the use of MyTax, e-Filing, and MyInvois to facilitate business operations and contribute to the success of the digital transformation for a more efficient and transparent Malaysia.
