Man Arrested for Reckless Driving and Drug Use in Sibu

Sibu: A car driver has been arrested by police after driving recklessly and crashing into a motorcycle and several other vehicles on Jalan Oya. The incident was captured on video and widely shared on social media.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili stated that an initial urine test on the male driver, who is in his 20s, tested positive for amphetamines. "Police have detected a 1-minute 29-second video recording that went viral on social media showing a car hitting a motorcycle, causing the motorcyclist to fall," he said.

The incident is believed to have occurred near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Elizabeth. The car driver also collided with several other vehicles at the scene. Following the incident, police detained the driver to assist in the investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving on a public road.

Additionally, the police are conducting an investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 due to the positive result for amphetamines in the urine test.
