Marcos Calls for Government Reform to Combat Corruption and Regain Public Trust

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has emphasized the urgent need for government reform to tackle systemic corruption and regain public trust. Speaking to the newly elected and appointed officers of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines (LVGP) in Malaca±ang, Marcos highlighted the pressing issue of corruption, especially in light of recent revelations concerning irregularities in flood control projects.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos pointed out that public outrage over corruption is warranted, given the exposure of ghost and substandard infrastructure projects. He acknowledged the public's frustration and anger, attributing it to a history of governmental dysfunction and broken promises. To address these issues, Marcos has established the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to investigate alleged anomalies in flood control and public works projects, targeting those that have been fully paid for but remain unbuilt or are constructed with substandard materials.

Marcos urged vice governors to lead reform efforts in their provinces, emphasizing that leadership should prioritize integrity and public service over political affiliations. He encouraged them to demonstrate that true service transcends political colors, focusing instead on actions driven by heart, conscience, and commitment.

Furthermore, Marcos underscored the necessity of confronting greed in government decisively. He called for a united front in combating corruption, insisting that the unscrupulous abuse of power and greed must be eradicated. The LVGP officers who took their oath include its executive committee, regional directors, and appointed officials.
