Mavenir: Mavenir, the cloud-native network infrastructure provider, and Terrestar Solutions Inc., Canada's premier mobile satellite operator, have accomplished a significant milestone by completing an industry-first Voice over NB-IoT call in Non-Terrestrial Networks mode. The call was achieved over a 3GPP-standardized NTN S-band spectrum, specifically designed to bypass the interference commonly encountered in terrestrial networks. This innovative network is also adapted to function with GEO satellite delays, ensuring consistent coverage despite higher latency. This development allows GEO operators to immediately monetize NTN services.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this pioneering call was executed earlier in January 2025 using standard codec technology, Sony's Altair ALT1250 module, Mavenir Open RAN, Mavenir Converged Packet Core, and was facilitated in collaboration with Terrestar.
