Kuala lumpur: Maxim Malaysia has enhanced its in-app safety features through an upgraded SOS system, enabling driver-partners and passengers to obtain assistance more quickly during emergencies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the enhancements include a faster and more reliable SOS button, the ability to send alerts to up to three emergency contacts, and a Driver Alert System to assist partner drivers facing emergencies on the road. The SOS button function has now been standardised for both passengers and partner drivers, allowing users to either call the 999 emergency hotline or send an alert to their registered emergency contacts.
The company stated that alert recipients will receive a text message (SMS) containing the user's precise GPS location and a live trip-tracking link, and the notification can still be sent even if the internet connection is unstable. For driver-partners, Maxim said the Driver Alert System allows notifications on the type of emergency and the incident location to be sent to other Maxim partner drivers within a radius of up to three kilometres, enabling them to provide initial assistance while awaiting the arrival of emergency responders.
Meanwhile, Maxim Malaysia director Mohd Hazwan Musli mentioned that the enhancements provide users with more options to seek assistance based on the emergency they are facing. He emphasized that safety remains an important part of every trip, and the new improvements make the process of getting help more flexible and responsive. Instead of a single standard alert, users gain the ability to decide who should be informed of the issue first: loved ones, professional rescuers, or nearby fellow drivers.
Musli added that each option is accessible within seconds, and the time saved in making that choice can prove critical in an emergency. Additional safety features for passengers and drivers include a secure in-app chat that protects against fraud, internal trip monitoring that tracks essential journey information, including GPS tracking for every order. Passengers also have access to the Trip Sharing feature, allowing them to immediately send a real-time trip link to family or friends upon boarding the vehicle.
The company assured that all data transmitted through the SOS function, Driver Alert System, and Trip Sharing feature is encrypted in accordance with modern security standards and can only be accessed by authorised security personnel and relevant authorities when required under established procedures.
