Melaka: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Melaka state government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance strategic cooperation for the Melaka Smart City Initiative. This collaboration aims to strengthen the implementation of the Melaka Smart Blueprint 2035 (SMB2035), guiding the state's digital transformation towards sustainable development by 2035.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MoU focuses on expanding smart connectivity infrastructure. This includes high-speed public Wi-Fi services, optical fibre networks, and the installation of smart poles to ensure comprehensive network coverage. The cooperation also extends to improving public safety, traffic management, and smart technology-based tourism through a Network Operation and Command Centre for integrated implementation.

The statement highlights that the cooperation is expected to positively impact the public by expanding access to high-speed public Wi-Fi, enhancing digital service delivery, improving traffic management, and reducing disaster risk. The MoU exchange ceremony involved MCMC Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad, and was witnessed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Furthermore, the initiative aims to stimulate local digital economic development by strengthening tourism, retail, logistics, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sectors, creating a conducive environment for investment. The cooperation also aims to provide a foundation for Melaka's long-term digital transformation, enhancing its position as a competitive smart state internationally.

"MCMC is committed to continuing to work closely with the Melaka state government to successfully implement the national digital agenda, ensuring smart city development that is inclusive, sustainable, and beneficial to all levels of society," the statement added.
