Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is taking a significant step in empowering communities with artificial intelligence (AI) skills through the '1Prompt Engineer, 1NADI' programme. This initiative aims to produce AI prompt engineers at every National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) across the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MCMC NADI Office Head Dr Mohd Arif Adenan stated that the programme is part of the government's broader efforts to enhance digital literacy and ensure no community is left behind amid rapid technological advancements. Participants are provided with intensive training using specialised AI modules, culminating in certification from the MIMOS Academy, the training arm of the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS).
Dr Mohd Arif explained that these certified prompt engineers would serve as 'agents of change,' guiding communities in adopting AI technology safely and responsibly. "This means that anyone who wants to learn about AI does not need to enrol in costly courses. Instead, they can seek guidance from the prompt engineers stationed at every NADI centre," he noted. The initiative also aims to nurture AI talent in rural areas and create remote employment opportunities for young people, reducing the need to migrate to cities for work.
The presence of AI prompt engineers at each NADI centre is expected to enhance public AI literacy, curb the misuse of technology, and reduce the risk of online fraud. Dr Mohd Arif emphasized that this initiative is part of the NADI 2.0 transformation, which has expanded the role of NADI centres beyond providing Internet access. These centres now serve as community development hubs through five pillars: entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, health, digital awareness, and cybersecurity.
Since the introduction of NADI Smart Services in September 2024, over 21,000 individuals have participated in entrepreneurship programmes. These programmes have facilitated access to financing, Halal certification, and improved product packaging. In education, approximately 42,000 students have benefited from the free 'Tuisyen Rakyat' programme, with notable academic achievements among students from B40 households.
NADI centres have also conducted more than 147,000 basic health screenings, covering blood pressure, blood glucose, and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks. Dr Mohd Arif highlighted the shift from an 'inward' to an 'outward' approach under NADI 2.0, positioning NADI as a focal point for community services accessible even without physical visits. The 'NADI on Wheels' (NOW) initiative, equipped with satellite connectivity and digital devices, extends services to remote communities, orphanages, and temporary relief centres like those supporting flood victims in Melaka.
MCMC has further enhanced access to NADI services through the nadi.my portal, facilitating online access to digital learning materials, entrepreneurship programmes, and training modules. Dr Mohd Arif affirmed that the initiative aligns with MCMC's vision of transforming NADI into a sustainable community digital hub that meets the evolving technological needs of Malaysians.
