MEDIA PLAYS VITAL ROLE IN COMBATING FAKE NEWS DURING HAJ SEASON

MAKKAH, Media practitioners covering this year’s haj season play a crucial role in delivering up-to-date information to combat inaccurate and misleading details, said Malaysian Haj Delegation head Datuk Seri Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman.

He said this was important to provide accurate information about events in the Holy Land to the Malaysian public, thereby alleviating any concerns, especially among the families of pilgrims back home.

‘Alhamdulillah, I have observed the daily work of the media team brought by Tabung Haji (TH).

‘So far, they have been delivering accurate information, which is also vital for future pilgrims to understand the processes and environment they will experience,’ he told reporters after a visit to the Media Operations Room at TH headquarters at the Abraj Al Janadiriyah Hotel here.

Also present were deputy head of the Malaysian Haj Delegation (Welfare), Mohamed Heikal Mohamed Yusuff and TH Public Affairs and Corporate Communications general manager Ahmad Shahriman Johari.

Syed Sa
leh pointed out that this year, there was a slight change in coverage, with the media also broadcasting news through various mediums such as social media, print media, television and radio.

‘Each year, we review the effectiveness of media channels and audience reception of the news delivered, and we aim to provide opportunities to more media companies, insya-Allah,’ he added.

A total of 14 media personnel from various agencies, including the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), RTM, NSTP, Media Mulia, Astro Awani, Sinar Harian, TV Al-Hijrah, and TV Sarawak, are covering this year’s haj season.
