Medical Officers’ Absenteeism and AUKU Bill Update Highlight Dewan Rakyat Session

Kuala Lumpur:Medical officers not reporting for duty in Sabah and Sarawak, alongside the status of a new Bill to replace the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU), are among the key topics in Malaysia's Dewan Rakyat today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, during Question Time, Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) plans to query the Health Minister regarding the exact number of medical officers who missed their reporting deadline, the reasons for this, and measures to resolve the issue.

Additionally, Sivakumar Varatharaju Naidu (PH-Batu Gajah) will inquire about the progress of drafting a new bill to replace AUKU 1971 and the government's commitment to introduce it in Parliament by December.

Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) intends to question the Finance Minister about the jurisdictional boundaries between the Securities Commission Malaysia and other regulatory bodies to avoid overlapping responsibilities.

Tan Hong Pin (PH-Bakri) is expected to ask the Digital Minister for updates on digital literacy and artificial intelligence skills enhancement, as well as strategic plans to develop skilled digital talent.

After the question-and-answer segment, the Dewan Rakyat will proceed with the second reading of the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026, presented by the Health Minister, and the Courts of Judicature (Amendment) Bill 2026, presented by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.

The Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament is scheduled to last 37 days, concluding on December 8.
