Melaka Allocates Over RM22 Million to Enhance Healthcare Sector

Melaka: Melaka has earmarked over RM22 million in the state budget to bolster its healthcare sector over a span of three years, announced Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. The initiative aims to improve healthcare services and support the welfare of healthcare workers, who are pivotal to the sector.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the allocation aligns with the state government's commitment to address challenges faced by the healthcare system, including increasing patient numbers and rising expectations for service quality. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of not only sustaining but also building a trusted healthcare system in Melaka.

During the three-year period, more than 87 health clinics across Melaka, including 13 in the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency, will undergo upgrades to enhance comfort and treatment quality for residents. Additionally, plans are underway to construct a Women and Children's Block at Melaka Hospital, a significant move to boost the state's future healthcare capacity.

The state government, with support from the Federal Government, will also see the establishment of the Armed Forces Hospital at Terendak Camp, benefiting military personnel and their families. Several initiatives are being introduced to further strengthen healthcare, such as community first aid training, the '1 PBT 1 Ambulance' initiative, and emergency systems installation at key tourist locations.

Ab Rauf also highlighted the need for a new hospital in Melaka, citing the main hospital's long service of nearly 90 years. He underscored the necessity for modern and comfortable healthcare facilities to better equip the state for future health challenges.

At the Santunan Seuntai Kasih, Semekar Legasi Warga Kesihatan event, Ab Rauf announced donations totaling RM11,500 for retired healthcare workers in Masjid Tanah, and RM1,500 for five distinguished health 'srikandi'.
