Kuala lumpur: Melaka has clinched four Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) recognitions in the tourism sector within just three years. Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that the latest record is the "Largest Replica of Konda Kondi," measuring 3 metres by 6 metres, produced in collaboration with a private company. He emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the state's tourism sector's progress through innovative and impactful initiatives.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh expressed his desire for this success to be a catalyst for more ideas, products, and programmes that can attract tourists, extend their stay in Melaka, and generate economic benefits for the local population. He made these remarks during a speech at Dataran Pengkalan Rama, following the MBOR Certificate Presentation and Prize Giving Ceremony held in conjunction with the Sungai Melaka Festival 2026. The event was also attended by Shaharul Azuar Idris, CEO of the Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation (PPSPM).

The Chief Minister highlighted the state government's commitment to revitalizing Sungai Melaka through various community-focused activities. This year's 17th Sungai Melaka Festival showcases the river's uniqueness and hosts over 30 programmes across all three districts in the state. Among these activities is a freshwater fishing competition, offering total prizes worth RM30,000, including RM10,000 for the first-place winner.

He noted that the substantial prize money serves as a significant motivator for participants, with 1,123 anglers taking part, including those from both within and outside Melaka. This strong response indicates that fishing has a dedicated community and following, presenting the potential for development into a tourism product for the state.

The Chief Minister concluded by stating that the fishing competition could be organized on a larger scale in the future, with greater appeal and more attractive prizes, further enhancing its potential as a tourism attraction.
