Kuala lumpur: As Malaysia commemorates its 68th year of independence, citizens are reminded that Merdeka is not merely a date on the calendar, nor just a moment to wave the Jalur Gemilang with pride.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, an advocate for a United Malaysia, stated that the occasion should serve as a call for all citizens to reinforce the core values that form the foundation of the nation. He emphasized that the true strength of a nation lies not only in its economy or physical development but in the moral fibre of its citizens.
Lee highlighted the need for political leadership to cultivate good moral values, uphold integrity in all actions, and practice compassion towards fellow Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, or background. He underscored that integrity should be the guiding compass, leading individuals to do what is right even when unobserved. Compassion, according to Lee, should act as a bridge, uniting people through understanding, kindness, and empathy.
In the spirit of National Day, Lee urged all Malaysians to pledge their commitment towards building a nation that is not only prosperous but also just and principled, not only modern but also moral, not only strong but also selfless. He expressed a vision of passing on to future generations a Malaysia that is united, dignified, and ever compassionate, marking the true measure of independence. "Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan Ke-68," he added.
