Middle East Airspace Closures to Impact International Flights: CAAM

Kuala lumpur: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has announced that recent airspace closures in parts of the Middle East may impact certain international flight services.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, CAAM stated that airlines operating to and from the affected region could experience delays, retiming, rerouting, or cancellations due to evolving airspace restrictions and operational considerations. These measures are implemented to ensure safety and comply with international aviation requirements. CAAM is actively monitoring the situation and engaging with relevant airlines to safeguard passenger interests.

In its advisory to airlines, CAAM emphasized the importance of promptly informing passengers about any changes to scheduled departure or arrival times, including delays, rescheduling, rerouting, or cancellations. Airlines are urged to provide appropriate care, assistance, and alternative travel options to affected passengers, in line with the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC). The authority expects clear, timely, and transparent communication throughout the disruption period and insists on compliance with regulatory requirements.

CAAM advises passengers traveling to, from, or transiting through the impacted region to regularly check their flight status directly with their airlines before heading to the airport. Passengers should ensure their contact details in booking records are accurate for receiving notifications and reach out to their airline for rebooking options, refunds, or further assistance in case of disruptions.

Passengers who feel their rights under the MACPC have not been honored should initially seek resolution with the concerned airline. If unresolved, a complaint can be lodged through CAAM's official consumer channels for further review. CAAM will continue to monitor developments and collaborate with industry stakeholders to ensure safe operations and protect consumer rights.
