Minimum Wage and Refugee Registration Highlight Dewan Rakyat Agenda

Kuala Lumpur:The implementation of a RM2,000 minimum wage starting in June 2027, the registration of Myanmar refugees, and strategies to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are key topics set for discussion in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) will question the Economy Minister during the Minister's Question Time about government measures to ensure that the new minimum wage does not lead to job losses, price increases, or higher operating costs for small enterprises.

Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) plans to inquire about the Home Minister's targets for registering Myanmar refugees over the next two years, focusing on the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) Programme's goals and timeline.

Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) will ask the Foreign Minister about the government's strategic actions following three years of genocide in Gaza, emphasizing the need for protection of Palestinians, humanitarian aid access, international accountability, and Gaza's reconstruction.

During the oral question-and-answer session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) will seek details from the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister on expected new net generation capacity by 2030 and commitments through Power Supply Agreements with data centres.

Ahmad Johnie Zawawi (GPS-Igan) is set to question the Education Minister regarding the number of Sarawakian reserve teacher candidates awaiting appointment and plans to fill teaching vacancies.

Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) will ask the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister for updates on a study to introduce legislation against ticket scalping, including addressing existing enforcement challenges.

After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue debating the Supply Bill 2027 at the policy stage, following the Budget 2027 presentation by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday.

The policy-stage debate on Budget 2027 is scheduled to continue until October 22, with a ministerial winding-up session from October 26 to 29. The Dewan Rakyat will be in session for 37 days until December 8.
