MITI Aims for Enhanced Support for Industry-based SMEs in Budget 2026

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) is optimistic about securing substantial support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Budget 2026, aiming to better prepare them for export and entry into new markets.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz emphasized the need for policies to aid industries and companies in navigating the current geopolitical uncertainties. He noted that while larger companies possess the resources to gain market access, SMEs and their supporting supply chains require assistance to participate in expos.

The minister underscored MITI's commitment to bolstering Malaysian companies by deepening their integration within industrial ecosystems and enhancing their sophistication amid a complex geoeconomic and geopolitical landscape. He highlighted the importance of strong fundamentals, investment in artificial intelligence, increased productivity, talent attraction, and the strengthening of research, development, and innovation systems, particularly in the semiconductor sector.

In his keynote address, Tengku Zafrul expressed confidence that the upcoming Budget 2026, set to be tabled in October, will align with national priorities outlined in major policy frameworks such as MITI's New Industrial Master Plan 2030, the National Semiconductor Strategy, the National Energy Transition Roadmap, and the Green Investment Strategy.

He indicated that industry players could anticipate incentives promoting green compliance, productivity, and enhanced export enablers for SMEs through financing, insurance, and adherence to international standards. The budget is also expected to focus on technology adoption, particularly in AI and automation within the manufacturing sector.

Tengku Zafrul concluded by stating that the guiding principle remains fiscal discipline with a focus on targeted, high-growth, high-value industries.
