MITI Focuses on Bolstering EandE Sector to Maintain Malaysia’s Global Technology Status

Bayan lepas: The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) will continue to empower the electrical and electronics (EandE) sector to ensure Malaysia remains an important player in the global technology supply chain.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin stated that the EandE sector is a key contributor to Malaysia's position in the global supply chain, including high-tech semiconductors, advanced sensors, and telecommunications. Sim emphasized the significance of Malaysia, particularly Penang and the Northern Region, as major hubs for the EandE industry, hosting hundreds of world-class technology manufacturers.

Sim highlighted the strategic role of the semiconductor industry within the EandE sector, noting Malaysia's importance in the global value chain, including semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging activities. He addressed these points while officiating the 2010 Strategic Trade Act (STA) Customer Day and the STA Northern Region Clinic programme in Bayan Lepas.

Sim, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bayan Baru, discussed MITI's focus on export control compliance to ensure the orderly operation of the country's technology sector and international trade. Additionally, he mentioned Malaysia's strong trade performance in the first half of the year, which offers local companies the chance to improve workers' welfare, a key factor in their success.

Sim expressed hope that successful companies would share their achievements with employees through salary increases and bonuses. He also explained the purpose of the Northern Region STA Clinic, attended by 86 participants, which serves as MITI's annual engagement platform with industry players. The programme provides direct advisory services related to product classification, permit applications, dealings with licensing agencies, and internal audits.

Sim underscored the importance of collaboration between the government and industry players to maintain Malaysia as a trusted destination for investment and high-impact technology production.
