Sheng Long Plans RM140 Million Aquaculture Feed Factory in Taiping

Taiping: Sheng Long Aqua Technology (M) Sdn Bhd has announced an investment of RM140 million to establish its first aquaculture food factory in Kamunting, Taiping. Perak Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim revealed that the ground-breaking ceremony marks the commencement of construction and signifies the company's confidence in investing within Perak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the new factory will focus on producing aquaculture feed and will include two shrimp feed production lines and two fish feed production lines, with an annual production capacity of 150,000 tonnes. The project is expected to meet the increasing demand in Malaysia and neighboring markets, generating over 100 job opportunities and enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and supply chain resilience.

Teh highlighted that the state government, through InvestPerak, will maintain close collaboration with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), local authorities, and relevant agencies to provide comprehensive support for companies investing in Perak. Sheng Long Aqua Technology is a subsidiary of the China-based Guangdong Haid Group Co Ltd, a global player in agriculture and animal husbandry.

MIDA Manufacturing Development (Resource) executive director Surayu Susah stated that MIDA supports Sheng Long's commitment to transferring expertise to Malaysian talents, aiming to strengthen their capabilities in advanced feed manufacturing. She emphasized the importance of developing a stronger local supply chain by integrating Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) into the company's operations, thereby creating greater opportunities for local businesses in higher-value manufacturing activities.

Sheng Long's vision aligns with Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which aims to strengthen the manufacturing sector through innovation, technology adoption, and higher-value industrial activities. The project is also expected to foster collaboration between industry, academia, and research institutions, accelerating innovation and supporting a more resilient aquaculture industry.

Sheng Long general manager Chuang Jie Cheng expressed the company's aim to deliver high-quality aquaculture feed, ensure a stable supply chain, and provide comprehensive technical support to farmers, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development of the sector in the long term.

MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid remarked that Sheng Long's investment is a significant step forward for Malaysia's agri-food ecosystem. It enhances local manufacturing capabilities, reduces reliance on imported feed, and reinforces national food security and supply chain resilience. The project is set to create quality employment, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, and enhance local expertise in modern manufacturing.

The joint statement by MIDA, Sheng Long, and InvestPerak noted that the investment occurs amid sustained growth in Malaysia's food manufacturing sector, which attracted RM3.3 billion in approved investments in the first quarter of 2026. This growth underscores Malaysia's strengthening position as a regional hub for high-value, resource-based manufacturing and reflects rising investor confidence in the nation's agri-food ecosystem.
