MOE Strengthens Measures To Curb ILI Spread In Educational Institutions

Kuala lumpur: The Education Ministry (MOE) has given assurance that preventive and control measures to curb the spread of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) are being carried out continuously and comprehensively across all educational institutions under its purview.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Education director-general Dr. Mohd Azam Ahmad stated that the measures implemented include the issuance of a circular detailing guidelines on preventing the spread of ILI. This circular provides administrators of all institutions with a clear framework to manage the situation in an organised and effective manner.

He mentioned that the reminder of the circular was distributed to all educational institutions through state education departments and district education offices on October 6. Dr. Mohd Azam emphasized that the MOE, along with the Health Ministry (MOH) and its Disease Control Division, is closely monitoring the spread of ILI to ensure the health and well-being of students, teachers, and the entire education community.

Dr. Mohd Azam outlined several measures, including advising individuals displaying symptoms to seek immediate medical attention. Symptomatic students in hostels are to be isolated in the sick bay while awaiting their parents or guardians to take them home. Furthermore, students showing symptoms are encouraged to rest at home or in their hostels and avoid crowded areas.

He also urged members of the school community to wear face masks when interacting with others or in public places. Another crucial aspect of the measures is promoting awareness about the importance of personal hygiene and health among the education community. Parents and guardians are also being educated on their role in preventing the spread of ILI in schools and remaining vigilant about their children's health.

The MOH reported yesterday that there were 97 clusters of influenza A and B infections during Epidemiological Week 40/2025, a significant increase from 14 clusters the previous week, with the majority linked to educational institutions.
