Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MOE) views the delay of school construction seriously and is closely monitoring the matter as it is feared that it will have a direct impact on the education community as a whole. Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, emphasized the importance of addressing these delays to prevent the projects from being classified as sick projects.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina Sidek stated that strict monitoring is being conducted at the ministry level due to the significant impact of school construction. The Chief Secretary to the Government has also repeatedly stressed the importance of completing educational institution projects within the specified time frame. These remarks were made during a press conference at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Pelangi, Semenyih, on the opening day of the 2025/2026 school session.
Fadhlina further mentioned that the MOE is implementing various interventions, particularly in work process contracts. The commitment of the MADANI Government is crucial, especially since many previous projects were left incomplete. The ministry is adopting a new commitment and approach to ensure schools are built within the designated time frame. This responsibility requires full commitment from all agencies involved in school construction.
In addition to these efforts, the ministry is introducing measures such as building cabin classrooms to address the issue of overcrowded and unconducive classes. Selangor Education director Dr. Jafri Abu noted that the Ministry is providing cabin classrooms using the industrialised building system (IBS) as a short-term solution for overcrowded schools. In Selangor alone, 95 schools with 301 classrooms are receiving an allocation of RM69 million to implement these measures.
