Penang: The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is embarking on a nationwide budget tour to collect feedback from industry players, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the public as part of its preparation for Budget 2027.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that the tour is designed to understand the needs of key sectors in each state and gather input from those directly impacted by government policies and allocations. "We are visiting every state to understand the industries that are important," he mentioned during a visit to Sekolah Menengah Agama Al-Mashoor (Girls).

Amir Hamzah highlighted that Penang is among the locations due to its significant role in the electrical and electronics (E and E) and semiconductor sectors. The tour will also focus on the medical devices sector, given Malaysia's strong export performance and advancements in this industry. He emphasized that this sector could enhance domestic employment by creating better job opportunities.

The tour will also include visits to Sabah and Perak before reaching Penang, with a specific focus on industry players in the blue (maritime-based) economy and automotive sectors. The government plans to study all feedback collected through focus group sessions and stakeholder meetings. Some of these suggestions may be included in the upcoming budget, while others will be examined and discussed with relevant ministries and agencies.

Amir Hamzah concluded by noting that focusing on specific groups has greatly improved the budget's quality, as it incorporates proposals from industries, NGOs, and the public, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach across all sectors.
