MOH Issues Nearly RM120 Million in Fines for Unauthorised Medicine and Cosmetics Sales

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has taken significant action against the sale of unregistered medicines and cosmetic products, issuing fines totaling nearly RM120 million. Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni addressed the Dewan Rakyat, emphasizing the ministry's ongoing preventive measures, which include collaborating with e-commerce platforms to eliminate advertisements for unauthorised medicines and banning live streams promoting weight loss and beauty products.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Lukanisman responded to a query from Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein (BN-Sembrong) concerning MOH's enforcement strategies against the online marketing of such products. The ministry remains committed to combating the proliferation of unregistered and potentially harmful products sold online.

In another development, the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is considering revising legal provisions to address flag-related offences more stringently. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah highlighted that the current laws, governed by the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, have been applied to 22 cases of incorrect or inverted flag displays since 2022. Shamsul Anuar assured uniform enforcement of the law, devoid of political bias.

Additionally, Kuala Lumpur's governance structure may see reforms following a proposal by several Members of Parliament. A Private Member's Bill has been submitted to amend the Federal Capital Act 1960, as announced by Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and others. The proposed amendments aim to transition from a single Mayor's absolute power to a system involving Council Members, reflecting the August 2025 recommendation by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
