MOH, MiSHA To Launch Initiative Addressing Workplace Lung Health Risks

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH), in collaboration with the Malaysian Industrial Health and Safety Association (MiSHA), is set to launch the National Lung Health Initiative this year to tackle workplace-related lung health risks. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasized the initiative's significance in addressing occupational health hazards linked to lung diseases.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Dzulkefly stated that the collaboration between MOH and MiSHA aims to develop policies and prevention programs. These will include lung health guidelines, awareness campaigns, and regular health screenings for workers exposed to hazardous materials. The announcement was made during the MiSHA National Excellence Awards on OSH Principles of Prevention (OSH PoP) 2024.

Dr Dzulkefly pointed out that employees in sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and heavy industries face exposure to harmful substances, including dust, chemicals, and air pollution. These elements can lead to chronic lung diseases, occupational asthma, or silicosis if not effectively managed.

He further noted that MiSHA plays a vital role in communicating the industrial sector's needs and challenges to the ministry. The collaboration is anticipated to enhance worker well-being and mitigate workplace health risks.
