Kuala lumpur: The Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) has announced the return of the iconic Mosque Open Day (MOD) programme, set to take place throughout September 2025 as part of the Islamic Tourism Month (ITM). The event will be hosted at nine selected mosques across the nation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ITC released a statement revealing that the mosques will open their doors to the public, including non-Muslim visitors, allowing them to explore the architectural beauty, historical significance, and spiritual role of mosques as cultural landmarks. The initiative aims to enhance public understanding of Malaysia's Islamic heritage and promote Muslim-friendly tourism through a community-based approach.
The programme will feature guided tours, exhibitions, and interactive activities to encourage intercultural dialogue and appreciation of Malaysia's Islamic heritage. The participating mosques include Masjid Al-Qodim in Sarawak from September 5 to 7, Masjid Alam Impian in Selangor on September 6, and several others on various dates throughout the month.
Among the planned activities are health forums, cross-cultural programmes, competitions for children and teenagers, traditional games, and exhibitions. ITC emphasizes that the MOD programme supports Malaysia's goals to expand the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality (MFTH) sector, particularly as the country prepares for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
ITC further highlights that the MOD initiative strengthens Malaysia's position as a leader in Muslim-friendly tourism and as a promoter of cultural diplomacy and cross-religious understanding. It also complements ITC's ongoing efforts, including Mosque Tour Guide (MosVi) training and the Tourism Mosque Directory initiative.
In addition to the MOD, ITM will also feature the Global Halal Summit (GHaS) from September 16 to 18, and the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) from September 17 to 20, further contributing to the celebration of Islamic tourism and culture in Malaysia.
