PDRM Detects Fake Facebook Accounts Using NSRC’s Name

Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has detected two fake Facebook accounts using the name and image of the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) for the purpose of deceiving the public. Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa stated that NSRC currently does not have any social media accounts, including the two Facebook accounts detected last Saturday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, NSRC is a call centre that acts as an operations centre to coordinate rapid response, which includes faster detection of stolen funds and taking enforcement action against criminals. However, the existence of NSRC is manipulated by syndicates who impersonate authorities with the aim of deceiving victims, including by fishing for personal information and illegally obtaining money.

Rusdi emphasized that NSRC operates as a one-way communication call centre, which only receives calls from the public via the 997 line and will never contact any individual via telephone or messaging applications such as WhatsApp. He warned that any call or message claiming to be from NSRC is a scam.

He further advised the public who are victims of online scams to immediately contact NSRC at 997 within less than 24 hours to increase the chance of blocking money transferred to criminals.
