Mother Clarifies Cause of Bruising on Daughter’s Body During Inquest

Hanoi:The mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir acknowledged at the Coroner's Court that the bruising on her daughter's back was due to blood clotting, not from being struck.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Noraidah Lamat, the 82nd witness in the inquest, confirmed that she was informed of this by a doctor on August 10 of the previous year. This conversation took place after she expressed concerns that the bruising observed during the bathing of her daughter's body might have been caused by a blunt object.

During questioning by lawyer Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah, Noraidah affirmed that the doctor's explanation about the bruising being related to blood clotting was accurate. She also noted that no doctors who treated Zara had confirmed any injuries caused by a blunt object, which contradicted claims made in a family lawyer's media statement from August 3 of the same year.

Noraidah explained that the media statement followed a police report she filed at the Sipitang district police headquarters. She had requested further investigation into the bruising seen on July 17, 2025, as the family had not yet received clear information from investigators about the circumstances of her daughter's condition, prompting questions about her death.

She emphasized to the court that she never personally concluded her daughter was struck with a blunt object, choosing instead to leave the investigation to the authorities.

Zara Qairina died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 17, 2025, after being found unconscious near a drain at her school dormitory the previous morning. The inquest proceedings are set to continue this afternoon.
