Kuala lumpur: Riders at Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations around the Klang Valley today experienced a surprise as Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) staff handed out Jalur Gemilang flags and sang patriotic songs. This was part of the Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag campaign in conjunction with the 2025 National Month celebration.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim mentioned that the joint programme with the Information Department (JAPEN) aims to foster a sense of gratitude for the country's independence and promote unity among Malaysians. The initiative involved MRT Corp staff reaching out to passengers and distributing over 1,000 Jalur Gemilang flags while singing patriotic songs during peak hour journeys.
The programme commenced with a symbolic handover of a Jalur Gemilang kit by JAPEN deputy director-general (digital content) Erwin Khairul Ahmad to MRT Corp. This was followed by the MRT Merdeka Train Ride, which included over 200 MRT Corp staff traveling on a special train to selected destinations such as Pasar Seni, Tun Razak Exchange, and Ampang Park.
At the same media conference, Erwin Khairul stated that JAPEN had donated an additional 200 Jalur Gemilang flags to MRT Corp. This donation aligns with the company's role as an implementing partner under the Industry Cluster to support the '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' programme. He also commended premises and agencies that purchase additional flags with their own funds, highlighting their commitment to celebrating the National Month.
A participant of the programme, MRT Corp employee Nur Asiah Izaliza Zainullah, 35, expressed her joy at participating in such an event for the first time. She shared her experience, noting the diversity of traditional costumes worn by participants and the shared sense of pride in singing patriotic songs together.
