Kuala Lumpur:Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing departed for home today after completing a two-day official visit to Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Min Aung Hlaing received a ceremonial send-off with a red carpet and a guard-of-honour by the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, led by Capt Wan Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Wan Zamri. The farewell took place at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The delegation left on a special flight at 2.10 pm, with the send-off attended by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
During his visit, Min Aung Hlaing was officially welcomed at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya. He held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, followed by a delegation meeting and a luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister.
In these meetings, both nations agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation, focusing on people-centric collaborations and supporting Myanmar's reform efforts to address its challenges. Additionally, Myanmar agreed to the large-scale repatriation of its citizens at its own cost.
Prime Minister Anwar, during a joint press conference, noted that over 10,493 Myanmar nationals had been repatriated through various means, with further discussions planned between the respective home affairs ministries for additional repatriations, subject to record verification.
The visit also highlighted the potential for increased economic ties, with bilateral economic activities having risen by over 140 percent year-on-year.
