NADM Recovers RM123 Million in Unremitted Revenue Following Audit Act Amendment

Putrajaya: The National Audit Department (NADM) has successfully recovered approximately RM123 million in previously unpaid revenues since the amendment of the Audit Act 1957 (Act 62) was enacted last year, announced Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi. The department has also identified incomplete infrastructure projects, working closely with auditors to address these issues.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the amendment has enabled NADM to address numerous issues highlighted in previous Auditor-General's Reports. The department has made substantial progress in recovering unpaid revenues and ensuring the completion of infrastructure projects that were previously left undone. This was discussed by Wan Suraya at the ASEAN Auditor Conference 2025, where she participated in a high-level dialogue session on enhancing public sector auditing through follow-up audits.

Wan Suraya emphasized that the revised Audit Act empowers the Auditor-General to take decisive action or make formal recommendations when serious irregularities are found. She highlighted the importance of accountability, noting that audit reports are now debated in Parliament, compelling ministries and agencies to justify their actions or inactions. This process aims to ensure transparency and transform audit findings into measurable actions.

The ASEAN Auditor Conference 2025, hosted by NADM in line with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship, is being held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. The event brings together 2,243 participants from both public and private sectors, including regional and international delegates. The conference serves as a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences to strengthen audit frameworks, addressing challenges such as digital transformation, ESG reporting standards, and cross-border collaboration.

The Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, delivered a keynote address via video message, emphasizing the credibility and essential role of auditors across various sectors. He also called for stronger regional and cross-sector collaboration to advance a trusted and competent audit profession.
