Ipoh:The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) plans to prioritize the RM260 million provided under Budget 2027 for the establishment of more Permanent Disaster Relief Centres (PPKBs) and the acquisition of disaster preparedness assets and equipment, according to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Zahid noted that this initiative aims to enhance the operational capabilities of frontline agencies, particularly in managing disasters like floods. The plan involves setting up two permanent disaster relief centers in each state, with the potential for more as needed, thanks to the additional budget allocation.
Speaking at a press conference after launching the 2026 National Preparedness Month (BKN) at the Ipoh Convention Centre, Zahid, who also chairs the National Disaster Management Committee, highlighted the focus on flood-prone hotspot areas that often require large-scale evacuations.
Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong previously mentioned that 15 PPKBs across nine states are expected to commence operations in stages this year to bolster the nation's disaster management system. Among these, PPKBs in Johor and Pahang are completed, with others in various stages of construction or planning.
Zahid also stated that part of the budget would be allocated for acquiring disaster preparedness assets such as boats and water pumps. Furthermore, the assistance rate for repairing homes affected by disasters has doubled from RM5,000 to RM10,000 per family, aiming to aid victims in rebuilding their lives more swiftly.
Additionally, the management of aid has improved, with Bantuan Wang Ihsan being distributed to victims at Temporary Evacuation Centres to provide timely assistance before they return home.
