National Influenza Immunisation Programme For Senior Citizens To Begin Feb 18

Kulim: The National Influenza Immunisation Programme for senior citizens is set to begin on Feb 18. Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni announced that appointment bookings for the vaccination can be made via the MySejahtera application, which will open on Feb 14.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Health director-general has already confirmed the commencement of the programme, targeting senior citizens aged 60 and above at selected clinics. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 170,000 recipients nationwide. Lukanisman encouraged the public, particularly senior citizens, to receive the vaccination for their well-being and invited collaboration from the private sector or state governments to implement this programme.

In addition, Lukanisman addressed ongoing efforts by the Health Ministry to enhance healthcare services, including the upgrading of dilapidated clinics across the country. Currently, 455 upgrade projects are in progress nationwide, with 41 projects located in Kedah. These efforts are part of an ongoing healthcare transformation aimed at improving community services.

Lukanisman also highlighted the role of the newly launched Wellness Hub, which focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle. Unlike traditional health clinics, the Wellness Hub encourages public engagement in activities related to healthy living. It is envisioned as a priority development alongside hospitals and clinics under the 13th Malaysia Plan. Currently, 33 Wellness Hubs are operational nationwide, with nine more projects planned for this year in various regions, including Putatan, Hulu Langat, and Northeast Penang, as well as new projects in Sandakan, Muallim, Sibuti, Kuala Selangor, Alai, and Muar.
