Kuala lumpur: With the Road Transport Department's (RTD) 50 per cent summons discount ending on Dec 30, nearly 4.9 million summonses worth RM1.4 billion remain unpaid. RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli stated that since the campaign began on Nov 1, only about 520,000 summonses valued at RM70 million have been settled.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, most of the outstanding summonses involve active offenders, with some remaining unpaid for over 10 years. Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli addressed reporters during Operation Luxury 4.0 at the Kuala Lumpur RTD Seizure Depot, emphasizing that from Jan 1, the discount will no longer be available, and payment rates will revert to the original amounts. The scheme is considered the government's final opportunity for offenders before the introduction of a time-based payment system.
RTD director-general warned that unsettled summonses may face stricter enforcement in the future and urged the public to settle their summonses before Dec 30. The event was also attended by senior RTD enforcement director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan and Kuala Lumpur RTD director Hamidi Adam.
