New Bridges Enhance Connectivity for Pulau Bruit Residents

Rome:Sarawak Pulau Bruit has overcome its long-standing connectivity challenges with the inauguration of the Batang Paloh Bridge, which links the island to the mainland via two bridges.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas highlighted the transformative impact of the Batang Paloh Bridge and the Muara Lassa Bridge on the previously isolated area, offering new economic opportunities for the local community.

Uggah recalled the difficulties faced by residents during his first visit in 2000 when water transport was the only option. He emphasized that the new infrastructure would significantly alter residents' lifestyles and opportunities. The opening of the bridges also marks the end of the Batang Paloh ferry service, a crucial connection for the community until now.

The Batang Paloh Bridge is the 13th of 22 mega-bridges planned, with a total investment of approximately RM7 billion funded by the Sarawak government. This bridge development is part of a broader initiative to improve Sarawak's connectivity, which includes upgrading the 890-kilometer Coastal Road and constructing the Second Trunk Road.

Uggah noted that the state government's successful securing of funds has facilitated these large-scale infrastructure projects, enhancing access to previously remote areas.
