Kuala lumpur: The implementation and issuance of the new versions of the MyKad and the Malaysian International Passport remain on schedule, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Despite the introduction of new versions, he emphasized that current applications will continue using existing stock due to its adequacy for the upcoming months.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin Nasution assured that both initiatives are progressing smoothly. He highlighted the importance of utilizing the existing stock efficiently before transitioning to the upgraded versions. He stated, "Even though we are introducing new versions, it does not mean we should discard existing stock that is sufficient for another two to three months."
Saifuddin elaborated further on the efficient management of the remaining stock of MyKad and passports. He noted that around 35,000 MyKad applications are received monthly from children turning 12 years old, and these applications currently rely on existing stock and contracts. The transition to the new versions will occur once the current stock is depleted.
Previously, Saifuddin announced plans to introduce redesigned MyKad and passports to enhance the security features of Malaysia's identification documents.
