Woman Arrested for Allegedly Confining Adopted Daughter in Seremban Storeroom

Seremban: Police have arrested a 46-year-old woman suspected of confining a nine-year-old girl in a storeroom behind a house in Taman Tuanku Jaafar here yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Yatim Osman reported that a complaint was received at 7:22 pm on June 7 regarding a young girl allegedly confined in an unlocked storeroom. Initial investigations revealed that the victim had been adopted by the family since she was one year and eight months old.

During the recent school holidays, the victim was reportedly placed in the storeroom, receiving food twice a day. She was only permitted to enter the main house to use the toilet before being instructed to return to the storeroom. Investigations also uncovered that the victim was often scolded and beaten by the suspect, her adoptive mother, for minor issues, including taking food at night.

The victim has since been rescued and taken to Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar Seremban for further treatment. The case is currently being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. Authorities are seeking to remand the suspect at the Seremban Magistrate's Court to aid in the investigation.

The police are appealing to the public for any information related to the case. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Insp Zulfitri Abd Razak, at 06-6033222 or visit any nearby police station.
