New Selangau Road and School Projects to Finish Ahead of Schedule, Says Uggah

Selangau: The construction of a new road to Selangau town and SMK Selangau is set for early completion, aiming to expedite the provision of facilities to residents, announced Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government is determined to ensure that both the road and school projects meet their specifications and are completed ahead of the planned timeframe. Uggah highlighted that the road, initially scheduled for a 12-month completion, is now targeted to be finished within six months.

Uggah noted the favorable weather and relatively straightforward work conditions as factors contributing to the accelerated timeline. He expressed hope that the Public Works Department (JKR) would continue comprehensive monitoring of the project. The 450-metre road project, valued at RM3.5 million, is fully funded by the state government. It aims to provide direct access to Selangau town, eliminating the need for a long detour from the Pan Borneo Highway, thus improving traffic flow for local residents.

The Deputy Premier, who also serves as Sarawak Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, inspected the SMK Selangau construction project, which is currently 4.34 percent ahead of its original schedule. The school, involving the construction of 18 classrooms at a cost of RM81.008 million, is expected to be completed by December 2026, six months earlier than the original June 2027 deadline.

Uggah emphasized that the school project, funded by the Federal Government and implemented by the State Government, is on track due to stable site conditions and the use of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) method. He assured continued monitoring by JKR Sarawak to prevent any delays.

He also warned that the state government would not hesitate to terminate contracts of any project that fails to adhere to the plan, as has been practiced previously.
