No Special Treatment In MARA Loan Repayments, Says Chairman

Alor setar: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) does not grant any special treatment or exemptions to individuals in matters related to loan repayment, its chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said. He stressed that MARA does not consider a borrower's background when managing loan repayments and will not entertain support letters from any party.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Asyraf Wajdi stated, "All borrowers are regarded as very important persons (VIPs). Even those who fail to repay their loans are considered VIPs. There is no such thing as VIPs being exempted from payment while others must pay... that does not exist." He emphasized that MARA will not accept any requests for leniency in repayment matters, regardless of the borrower's identity.

He further explained during the Kedah and Perlis State-level Women Empowerment Programme that MARA has implemented stricter financial discipline measures, including issuing notices to borrowers with delayed repayments exceeding three months. Reports on loan repayment performance are regularly presented to MARA's management to monitor collection trends.

"So far, I am satisfied as there has been an improvement in loan repayments. This could also reflect the growing awareness among the public that every sen repaid is used entirely to assist others," Asyraf Wajdi noted. He also urged borrowers experiencing repayment difficulties to communicate with MARA to explore suitable repayment solutions.
