Kuala lumpur: There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia following a strong earthquake that struck the Banda Sea, Indonesia, early this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip confirmed that the 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at 2.38 am. The epicentre was pinpointed at coordinates 7.9 degrees south and 127.8 degrees east, with a depth of 173 kilometres.

Dr Mohd Hisham explained that the earthquake's location was approximately 467 km from Ambon, Indonesia. He provided these details in a statement released today, indicating that there is no immediate threat of a tsunami to Malaysia.
